Judges class 1
The pages of Judges contribute to two main truths:
1. The failure of the Israelites was due to compromise
2. That a return to true faith brings renewed victory
Israel’s failure and downfall
- Did not totally obey (removing the Canaanites) Jdg 1:19…
- Made a league with the Canaanites Jdg 1:28
- Intermarried Jdg 3:6a,b (“be not unequally yoked with unbelievers”)
- Idolatry Jdg 3:6c
- Apostasy Jdg 4:1 (abandonment of Christian faith; 2 Thes 2:1-3) falling away; rebellion
- Apostasy was followed by captivity Jdg 4:2
- One of the main reasons for driving out the Canaanites was to avoid their moral corruption, and to avoid idolatry and the way the Canaanites worshiped other gods through child sacrificing.
